Isaac Makwala (Tutuma, Botswana, 29th september 1986) became on June 5 in the fifth fastest man ever  in the  400 meter dash, in addition to breaking the record of African stopping the clock in 43.72. Nike Running sprinter speaks exclusively to TheWangConnection.

You have become in the fastest African of the history of the 400 metres dash with 43.72, and in the fifth fastest man in the world ever. Do you think you can break some day the world record of Michael Johnson (43.18)?

Breaking the world record is not easy, it is my dream, yes but i cannot be sure what will happen in future.

In 40 days the World Championship begins in Beijing and you just became the favourite for the gold medal. Do you think that if you are in the current form will be someone who can put you in trouble?

Competition is going to be tough obviously, my only aim is to be in the top 3 of the World Champs.

You’ve been two years running very fast in Switzerland, why there?

(Laughs) I expected this question, Switzerland has somehow turned into my second home. The support i receive there is amazing plus they have the perfect weather conditions.

African athletics has always been known for the middle and long distance. Now, with you, Africa is at the top in sprints events, and this isn’t just only for caribbean or american athletes. What message would you send to the world about the sprints athletes in Africa?

The world needs to remember that for everything there is a time, there are more youngsters in Africa who are proving to be future forces to be reckoned with in terms of sprints.
